iOS 27 Call Context: How It Works, Privacy and Supported iPhones
Share
Updated July 30, 2026
iOS 27 adds a Phone app feature called Call Context, which can place useful booking or reservation details on screen while you call a business.
It does not speak to customer service for you. Instead, it can reduce the need to leave the call screen, open Mail and search for a confirmation number while a representative waits.

Quick Answer
Call Context uses Apple Intelligence to match the business you are calling with potentially relevant information stored across your apps.
For example, when you call an airline, the Phone app may find a confirmation code in Mail and display it during the call.
Apple says Call Context checks who you are calling, not what you are saying. The matching runs entirely on the device. It requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone, and the initial iOS 27 beta implementation is reported to support English first.

How Does iOS 27 Call Context Work?
Call Context is designed for situations where a business may ask for information you already have on your iPhone, such as a reservation number or confirmation code.
- The iPhone identifies the business. The system first determines which company or organization you are calling.
- Apple Intelligence looks for a likely match. It searches relevant information across supported apps, with Mail and airline bookings being Apple's clearest example.
- The Phone app shows the result. A card may appear on the call screen so you can view or use the details without opening another app.
The result is not guaranteed. A regional support number, an unfamiliar business line or an unusual confirmation format may prevent the feature from finding a useful match.
What a Real iOS 27 Beta Test Showed
In a July 2026 9to5Mac beta test, calling Southwest Airlines caused flight details to appear automatically on the call screen.
The iPhone also offered to read the confirmation number aloud and displayed another Southwest booking underneath the first result. This shows that Call Context can present more than one possible match, although support may vary between companies.
Does Call Context Listen to Your Phone Calls?
No. Apple says Call Context does not use the conversation audio to decide what information should appear.
According to Apple, the feature looks at the identity of the business being called, not what the caller and representative are saying. The matching runs entirely on the device, so the information used by Call Context is not shared with Apple or another company.
Call Context is therefore separate from call recording, transcription and summaries. Those tools process the conversation itself, while Call Context uses the business identity to find information that may be useful during the call.
Which iPhones Support Call Context?
Call Context requires Apple Intelligence. An iPhone may support iOS 27 without supporting this particular feature.
Based on Apple's current Apple Intelligence requirements, compatible iPhones include:
- iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16 models and later
This includes the iPhone 16 series, iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, iPhone 17e and newer compatible models. The standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 14 series and older models cannot use Apple Intelligence, so Call Context will not appear on them.
Language and Regional Availability
Apple Intelligence broadly supports multiple languages, but individual features can have narrower availability. 9to5Mac reports that Call Context is initially available only in English during the iOS 27 rollout.
Apple has not published a complete country list or a schedule for additional Call Context languages. Availability may also depend on the device language, Siri language, region and whether the business number can be recognized.

Why Is Call Context Not Appearing?
If nothing appears when you call a business, check the following conditions:
- Your iPhone must support Apple Intelligence. The regular iPhone 15 and older models cannot use Call Context even if they can install iOS 27.
- Apple Intelligence must be enabled. Open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and confirm that it is turned on.
- The on-device models must finish downloading. Apple recommends keeping the iPhone connected to Wi-Fi and power while the models download.
- The device and Siri languages must match. Apple Intelligence can become unavailable while a new language model is downloading or when the two settings do not match.
- The business number must be recognized. A local office, personal number or regional support line may not match the expected company identity.
- A relevant record must exist. The booking email may be missing, stored in an unsupported source or formatted in a way the system cannot recognize.
As of July 30, 2026, iOS 27 remains beta software. Call Context behavior, interface details and supported businesses may change before the final public release.
What Call Context Cannot Do
Call Context is a convenience feature, not an AI customer service agent. It does not currently:
- place a business call on your behalf
- listen to the conversation to understand your problem
- navigate an automated phone menu for you
- negotiate a refund, cancellation or booking change
- replace you during a customer service call
You still make the call and speak with the representative. Call Context only brings likely useful information closer to the conversation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Call Context the same as Siri calling a company for me?
No. You place the call and speak with the business. Call Context only displays information that may help during the conversation.
Does Call Context work on the regular iPhone 15?
No. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support Apple Intelligence, but the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus do not.
Can Call Context read a confirmation code aloud?
A beta test showed this option during an airline call. Apple has not confirmed that read-aloud support will work with every business or reservation.
Does Call Context record the call?
No. Apple says Call Context uses the identity of the business rather than the call audio. Recording and transcription are separate Phone app features.
Will Call Context work outside the United States?
Apple has not described the feature as US-only, but it has not published a complete regional availability list. Business recognition, language and Apple Intelligence availability may affect whether it works.

Bottom Line
Call Context is a practical Apple Intelligence feature that can place a likely confirmation code, reservation number or booking detail directly in the Phone app while you call a business.
Its main privacy advantage is that Apple says it identifies who you are calling rather than analyzing the call audio, and the matching happens entirely on the device.
The main limitations are Apple Intelligence hardware requirements, English-first availability and inconsistent business recognition. Even on a compatible iPhone, the feature may show nothing when it cannot identify the company or find a relevant record.
