iOS 27 Compatible iPhones: Full List, Features and Upgrade Guide
Share
Wondering whether your iPhone can run iOS 27?
The good news is that Apple continues to support a wide range of iPhone models. iOS 27 is compatible with the iPhone 11 and newer, as well as the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later.
But there is an important distinction between being able to install iOS 27 and having access to every feature in the update.
Some features require newer hardware, particularly Apple Intelligence. So an older iPhone may be fully compatible with iOS 27 while still missing some of its newest capabilities.
Here is the complete iOS 27 compatibility list, what older iPhones can and cannot do, and whether you should consider upgrading.

Quick Answer: Which iPhones Support iOS 27?
iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 and newer models, along with the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later.
The compatible lineup includes the iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 families, plus the second- and third-generation iPhone SE.
However, not every supported iPhone gets every iOS 27 feature.
For example, Apple Intelligence requires newer hardware and is not available on the iPhone 11 through iPhone 14, the standard iPhone 15 or the iPhone SE models.

Does Every Compatible iPhone Get Every iOS 27 Feature?
No.
This is one of the most important things to understand about Apple's compatibility list.
When Apple says an iPhone supports iOS 27, it means the device can install and run the operating system. It does not necessarily mean that every new feature is available on that device.
Hardware requirements can vary from one feature to another.
Newer iPhones have more powerful processors and Neural Engines, which can enable capabilities that older models cannot handle.
So there are really two separate questions:
Can my iPhone run iOS 27?
and
Can my iPhone use the iOS 27 features I want?
The compatibility list answers the first question. Individual feature requirements determine the second.
Apple Intelligence Compatibility Is Different
Apple Intelligence is the clearest example of this difference.
You can install iOS 27 on an iPhone 11, but that does not give the device access to Apple's current Apple Intelligence features.
Apple Intelligence on iPhone requires newer hardware. Apple's supported iPhone models include:
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16 series
- iPhone 17 series
The standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus do not support Apple Intelligence, even though they can run iOS 27.
The same applies to older supported models such as the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.
Why Is Apple Intelligence Limited to Newer iPhones?
AI features can require considerably more processing power than traditional iOS functions.
Apple's newer chips include more capable Neural Engines and other hardware designed for machine-learning workloads.
As a result, Apple has limited Apple Intelligence to compatible newer hardware rather than making it available on every iPhone that can run iOS 27.
Feature availability can also vary by language, region and the specific Apple Intelligence feature.

What About the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max?
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are not currently included in Apple's official iOS 27 compatibility list.
That's because Apple has not officially announced these models as of August 23, 2026.
If Apple launches the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max during the iOS 27 generation, they are expected to ship with iOS 27 or a later version of the same software generation.
However, their final software features and compatibility details have not yet been officially confirmed.
For now, it is more accurate to describe them as expected to support iOS 27, rather than officially confirmed compatible models.
Once Apple announces the iPhone 18 lineup, this section can be updated with the confirmed information.

How to Check Which iPhone You Have
If you are not sure which iPhone model you own, you can check it directly from your device.
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Look for Model Name.
You can then compare your model with the compatibility list above.
To check whether an iOS update is available, go to:
Settings → General → Software Update
If your iPhone is compatible and the update is available for your device, iOS 27 should appear there.

Will iOS 27 Slow Down Older iPhones?
Not necessarily.
Apple continues to support older devices such as the iPhone 11 with iOS 27, and Apple's own testing includes iOS 27 on an iPhone 11 Pro Max.
However, the experience can still vary depending on factors such as battery health, available storage, settings, installed apps and the overall condition of the device.
There is also an important distinction between performance and feature availability.
An older iPhone may not support certain advanced iOS 27 features because its hardware does not meet the requirements. That does not mean iOS 27 itself will automatically make the phone slow.
If your iPhone 11, iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 is still performing well, there is no reason to upgrade simply because iOS 27 is available.
Do You Need a New iPhone for iOS 27?
Not necessarily. If your iPhone supports iOS 27 and still meets your needs, you can simply update it and keep using it.
The main thing to remember is that not every iOS 27 feature will be available on every supported iPhone. Some features may require newer hardware, especially Apple Intelligence and other hardware-dependent capabilities.
So, if you are happy with your current iPhone, iOS 27 alone is not a reason to upgrade. Consider a new iPhone only if you also want better battery life, cameras, performance or features that your current model cannot provide.
FAQ

The iPhone 11 is the oldest standard iPhone that supports iOS 27. The iPhone SE (2nd generation) is also supported.
Can older iPhones use every iOS 27 feature?
No. Some iOS 27 features require newer hardware. An iPhone can support iOS 27 while still missing certain advanced capabilities.
Does the iPhone 15 support Apple Intelligence?
The standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus do not support Apple Intelligence. Apple Intelligence is supported on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, as well as newer compatible iPhone models.
Will the iPhone 18 Pro Max support iOS 27?
It is expected to, but Apple has not officially announced the iPhone 18 Pro Max as of August 23, 2026. Its final software and feature support will be confirmed when Apple introduces the device.
