What Does “Update Requested” Mean on iOS 27?
Update Requested appears near the beginning of the iOS update process.
Your iPhone knows that iOS 27 is available and has requested the software, but the main update file may not yet be actively downloading.
This is different from an iPhone that is stuck on Preparing Update, Verifying Update or the Apple logo during installation.
Your iPhone has requested iOS 27, but the main download has not fully started.
The iOS 27 software package is being downloaded to your iPhone.
The download is finished and the iPhone is preparing the software for installation.
The phone is verifying the update and beginning the installation process.
If your iPhone already says Preparing Update, do not keep applying fixes meant specifically for Update Requested. You have moved to a different stage of the installation process.
How Long Should iOS 27 Stay on Update Requested?
There is no exact time that applies to every iPhone.
Your internet connection, Apple’s server load and the number of people installing iOS 27 at the same time can all affect how long it takes before the download starts.
ZEERA’s assessment: We would not treat an iPhone as genuinely stuck simply because “Update Requested” has remained on screen for a few minutes. During a major iOS rollout, waiting before making more disruptive changes is usually the better first step.
As a practical rule:
- Under 15 minutes: usually keep waiting.
- 15–30 minutes: still reasonable during a busy iOS release.
- 30–60 minutes with absolutely no change: start troubleshooting.
- Repeatedly stuck after restarting or retrying: delete the update and download it again.
If a download percentage or progress indicator is already moving, even slowly, that is different from an update that has remained completely frozen.
Why Is iOS 27 Stuck on Update Requested?
If iOS 27 is not downloading after showing Update Requested, these are the most common areas to check.
Apple’s iOS 27 Update Servers Are Busy
Major iOS releases create a large spike in update requests. If many iPhone users are trying to download iOS 27 at the same time, the request may take longer to move into the downloading stage.
This is one reason why repeatedly canceling the update after only a few minutes may not help.
Your Wi-Fi Connection Is Slow or Unstable
An unstable network can prevent the update process from moving forward normally.
Your iPhone may appear connected to Wi-Fi while still experiencing packet loss, congestion or intermittent internet access.
A VPN or Proxy Is Interfering
If you use a VPN, proxy, company profile or filtered network, temporarily turn it off and try Software Update again.
Workplace, school and public Wi-Fi networks can also behave differently from a normal home connection.
Your iPhone Is Low on Storage
The available storage required for an iOS update is not limited to the size of the download itself.
Your iPhone also needs temporary working space while downloading, unpacking and preparing iOS 27.
The Existing iOS 27 Update File Is Stalled
If the iPhone has already downloaded part of the software and the same update keeps getting stuck, the locally stored update package may need to be removed and downloaded again.

How to Fix iOS 27 Stuck on Update Requested
Start with the simplest fix and work downward. You do not need to factory-reset your iPhone just because iOS 27 has been sitting on Update Requested.
Wait 15–30 Minutes Before Canceling the Update
If you only requested iOS 27 a few minutes ago, give the iPhone time to move forward.
Keep the phone connected to Wi-Fi and preferably connected to power.
Avoid repeatedly canceling and restarting Software Update while the phone may simply be waiting for the download to begin.
If the status changes from Update Requested to Downloading, let the process continue.
Check Your Wi-Fi Connection
Open Safari and load several websites. If webpages are slow, fail to open or repeatedly reconnect, your network may also be affecting the iOS 27 download.
Try moving closer to the router, reconnecting to Wi-Fi or switching to another trusted network.
If other devices on the same Wi-Fi are downloading large files, streaming high-resolution video or backing up large amounts of data, temporarily reducing that traffic may also help.
Turn Off Your VPN or Proxy
If a VPN is active, disconnect it temporarily.
Then return to:

- Large files you no longer need

Reset Network Settings — But Do This Later, Not First
A lot of troubleshooting guides recommend resetting network settings immediately. We would leave this until after the easier fixes.
Try it if you have already changed Wi-Fi networks, disabled your VPN, restarted the iPhone and downloaded a fresh update package without success.
This does not erase your photos or apps, but it resets network-related settings and means you may need to reconnect to saved Wi-Fi networks afterward.
iOS 27 Still Stuck? Update With a Mac or PC
If the iPhone repeatedly returns to Update Requested or refuses to complete the over-the-air update, a computer gives you another way to install iOS 27.
Connect the iPhone to your Mac, open Finder, select the iPhone and use the software update option.
Connect the iPhone to your PC and use Apple Devices or the appropriate Apple software available on the computer.
If your goal is simply to install iOS 27 while keeping your existing data, choose the normal Update option rather than restoring the iPhone.

“Update Requested” and “Preparing Update” Are Not the Same Problem
This distinction matters because users often search for iOS 27 stuck on Update Requested even after their phone has moved to another stage.
If the screen now says Preparing Update, the main iOS package has already downloaded. Network speed is therefore less important than it was during Update Requested.
If it says Verifying Update, the phone has moved even further into the process.
Always troubleshoot the status you currently see rather than repeatedly applying fixes for an earlier stage.
When Should You Stop Waiting?
If you are not sure whether to leave the phone alone or start fixing something, this is the simplest way to judge it.

The message has shown no meaningful change for around 30–60 minutes.
The same update repeatedly becomes stuck after restarting or retrying.

What Not to Do When iOS 27 Is Stuck
Most Update Requested problems do not require drastic action.
- Do not erase your iPhone immediately. A delayed update request does not mean the device needs a factory reset.
- Do not repeatedly cancel and restart the update every few minutes. If demand is high, that may accomplish nothing.
- Do not interrupt an active installation. The Apple logo and installation progress bar are a different stage from Update Requested.
